I hear Dena’s Challenge a calling

this is hard, but I am up and trying -

Have a creative mind I shan’t be bawling

can’t ask Dena why, cause I can’t be prying

 Writers never think letters and such

they just grab their eager pens and write -

I have a thinking cap I wear and clutch

I’ll accept this challenge - It bet’tr be right

Already at third verse, I’m ready and set

haven’t used that little letter Dena says I can’t -

This huge world now become small as

Misty dawn’s light touches the windowsill

awakes the sleepy silent Whippoorwill

calls his heart to sing an early morn song

Furiously the heat lingers

as the desert sun grasps

holding the drought,

plant growth ordained

to your part of the world

Desert spirits cry to be dampened

yearning for a moments relief,

as the riverbeds of one’s soul

lie still in their death

Over the rise the storm is coming,

wailing winds of magnitude strength

levels sparse renewed struggling growth,

About young soldiers lived in tents
Cold and hungry they fought the war
Protect their country as they swore
Truce has come loud gunfire has stopped
White flag between them now is swapped

Emotions tangle with the inner gates

Faith penetrates the soul highlighting

words not so much of wisdom,

A Solitary Smile

How does one capture true love from

another heart that carries a frown that

hides their emotions from the world?

Or, how does one escape true love

and move within their own world not

concerned with the love of another?

Is life complete as one remains a single

shade on the painter’s pallet that drips as

paint does from the end of the brush?

Simple conclusion - it is acceptable for one

to remain alone, content with life’s path

and teachings of the world and her rules

as the heart accepts today...

Rhythm comes as the breath

releases thoughts of contentment -
