Free Verse...

 Dedicated to Florence Galati

The Novelist

You are looking at her with interest
seemingly smug and giddy listening intensely
to her stories of portentous men in her life.
Laughingly, she captures your intense, curious heart.

She says casually, she has been around,
she knows what she wants and expects in a man.
Knowing what they want and desire, she will play
their costly game, thus, winning all in the end.

She again throws her head back and laughs,
gaining attention, securing herself in a shaky, unsecured
moment of truth, revealed carelessly during a nervous
conversation drawing again the attention she craves.

Realizing eyes are staring upon her body she is
exposed to the greedy world of lust, a world of
novel making, words of explicit description
from words she has spoken in haste.

Quietly, she turns to me, her long time friend,
looking into my eyes for comfort, sheltering her
mind from the cruel words of disbelief uttered,
are her stories of compassion truth or fiction…

She reluctantly admits her words are only make believe,
throwing her head back and laughing again,
as she cleverly captured us all with her
story telling as only the novelist can do.

Free Verse or Unrhymed Poetry Form has no rhyme, no special line length or no special pattern. It sounds like natural speech. It tells a story or paints a picture. It uses carefully chosen words to describe experiences or feelings. It is written like a poem and not like a paragraph. It must make sense to the reader…rg

Kyrielle Sonnet...

Blossom’s Hue

White, pure white is the blossom’s hue
Nature’s beauty enjoyed by few
Born each spring a gift to us all
Carries one through until the fall

Butterflies flutter in the sky
Searching for nectar as they fly
Joy in their tiny beings small
Carries one through until the fall

Birds settle in created nests
Wait for chirps from under their breasts
A spring day beautiful to all
Carries one through until the fall

White, pure white is the blossom’s hue
Carries one through until the fall

- Rhoda Galgiani

A Kyrielle Sonnet consists of 14 lines (three rhyming quatrain stanza
and a non-rhyming couplet) - Just like the traditional Kyrielle poem
the Kyrielle Sonnet also has a repeating line or phrase as a refrain
(usually appearing as the last line of each stanza). Each line within
the Kyrielle Sonnet consists of only eight syllables. French poetry
forms have a tendency to link back to the beginning of the poem
so common practice is to use the first and last line of the first quatrain
as the ending couplet - This would also re-enforce the refrain within
the poem. Therefore, a good rhyming scheme for a Kyrielle Sonnet
would be: AabB, ccbB, ddbB, AB or AbaB, cbcB, dbdB, AB...rg

Cross of Salvation...

Make All Days Count

 Time has value
Each day meaning
Use time wisely
Our days numbered
Remind me Lord
To do right thing
Accept what must
Giving you trust

Let me not put off things that I should now attempt
Guide me in my life to become the best I can
Keep me focused from devils temptations that tempt
Show me a sign Lord so I will stay on Your plan

Each day I’ll feel your love
I will feel joy in heart
Sunrise brings peace of dove
Bird’s song gives me great start
Your word I’ll read each day
Verse will inspire to write
It teaches Christian way
I hope to bring delight
Each day treasure
Memory make
Beyond measure

Rondel...

Services Rendered

Jewels of the night sparkle her neck
Rushing the door closes behind her
She shivers as she hears creatures stir
Quickly enters dark hall leads to deck

Black table holds a long awaited check
Services rendered all is just a blur
Jewels of the night sparkle her neck
Rushing the door closes behind her
Mind buries event etched in black deck
Eyes of sorrow carry shameful dark err
Morals have become distasteful sins that stir
Memories yearn to die become a dried speck
Jewels of the night sparkle her neck

Twister...

Night

Night shadow
Draws picture
On silent
Flat wall
Muted art

- Rhoda Galgiani

Twister Poetry Form Created by Ralph Stott consists of ten words in one verse;
two words for each of the five lines - Words one, four, five, eight and nine are
printed in bold and make up the first verse - This should read clearly - Words
one to ten make the second verse - This gives the ‘twist’ to the poem and again
should read clearly - So, two verses in one, the title should be one word, no
punctuation - Rhyming optional - Just one verse - 10 words...rg

French Sonnet...

Forgiven Tears

Before I found you my Lord, I trusted no one
I went my way in daily life with not one thought
Took life for granted, I didn’t know what you taught
Your name not said, as a child I knew not your Son
Young Mother I found faith my teaching now begun
Through time my love began to grow, I read and sought
Proud I felt, giving foundation to my young tots
I saw them grow spiritually my deed was done

Now on my own He is with me always - My Lord
As my faith grows stronger during my later years
Trust is instilled in my heart where it is now stored
Turning to Him I now have calmed my lonesome fears
Devil thoughts cut away from my mind with His sword
God loves me; He wipes away my forgiven tears

- Rhoda Galgiani
